I know everyone is playing Magic Awakened right now, but I finally got Hogwarts Legacy to run without crashing so I'm finally playing that! And as always, I've made a batch of ocs. Introducing Esme, Alexis, Joshua, and Liam

Esme Taelceon: The daughter of a pureblood wizard and an almost friendly siren. Esme is a very timid girl, never speaking above a whisper in the hopes of her siren powers never making someone do something against their will - unless she's desperate. She hates how much her appearance strikes fear into her classmates and goes out of her way to be helpful.

Alexis Hornstagle: A normal muggle girl with no connection to the wizarding world until her fifteenth birthday when she was attacked by a werewolf and turned, suddenly activating powers beyond what she should ever have been capable of. Alexis hides her terror of further attack behind a cold exterior, though she's loudly protective of her friends.

Joshua Jimmensong: The son of cursed parents who came out of the womb marked for death. A swirling angry scar rests above his heart and branches out across his whole body, and his magic is too powerful for how frail he is. Joshua is a right asshole to most people, but he wishes he knew how to be kind. His only hope is that he'll make the most of his (likely) short life.

Lukas Froll: A young man with absolutely nothing extraordinary about him and he likes it that way. He's average in his classes, not popular but not unpopular; unremarkable. That changes when he begins spending too much time with the three freaks of the school and discovers he also has powers he shouldn't. Seems he's doomed to have a wild destiny after all. Bugger.

They all have characteristics of being the proper mc, like all having access to ancient magic, though in lore only Alexis joins the school late. I've tentatively decided who each of them will be romantically interested in - one of them being a simp for a certain Slytherin, because obviously - but I want to get further into the game before I set it in stone.

I was originally going to play as Ida and Sebastien, ocs I developed a long time ago, but while playing through the game I decided that it didn't fit who I wanted them to be, so they'll be used for something else instead. The curse of making my own lore before giving the game a chance to explain itself :P

His favorite color is purple and his favorite pokemon is gengar. He leaves people notes with emojis on them. He acts like a beetlejuice scare actor at halloween horror nights. His catchphrase is "feeling sassy?" Hes (allegedly) worked with every war criminal throughout history and been every serial killer. even the gay ones. he ate a baby. his animal motif is a rabbit. hes kind of based off donnie darko. he almost exclusively wears merchandise of the Quentin Tarantino movie Death Proof. he talks to his cats in a baby voice. he wears a white fedora that makes every video he wears it in feel dated by like 7 years. hes 5'3. he hacked a girls tumblr blog. he added a laugh track over a video of him killing people. he named a chainsaw rex. he torments people by playing frank sinatra at them. his name comes from an animal collective song. theres a canon blog entry where he makes the speakers blare rob zombie before he enters a room, then holds a guy at gunpoint to describe what he did to to him while "making sure to leave in all the cool parts". Hes like ten tumblr sexymen traits rolled into one. His actor has gone on record saying heath ledgers joker inspired his acting choices. Sometimes his voice gets distorted and it makes him sound like bill ciphers first year on HRT. Hes basically like my artistic muse. For some fucking reason i associate the song cake by the ocean with him. I firmly believe that if everymanhybrid didn't require a masters degree in creepypasta autism to comprehend, he would've caused more teenage stabbings than the slenderman incident and more kin war tumblr scenarios than nagito komaeda.

The 24 Character Strengths are awesome references when writing characters!!

I've found this website to be extremely helpful and cool while fleshing out my characters' personalities and motivations.

Even if I only have basic personality traits for a character, exploring strengths that I feel fits them and reading their descriptions is fantastic for inspiration!! It really helps narrow down the basic ideals I imagine a character would believe in, and then I can get more specific from there. It's a great guide to springboard off of!

Each strength is sorted into one of six virtues. Starting with a broad virtue, for example "justice," and honing that down into the strengths of "fairness," "leadership," or "teamwork" makes writing them really fun!

Here's an example of the "fairness" strength description! Lots of detail and tangible qualities describing it!

Of course there are infinite ways to interpret a character strength, just like in real life. And people aren't always black and white and follow a strength 100% of the time. But it's been extremely helpful to see specific traits being described in so much detail, and imagining different scenarios that a character would react in. It's like I can understand them a bit more and think a little like them, especially if their trait isn't one of my personal strengths. :3

But I also recommend taking the actual personality test for yourself! I took it years ago and it was really cool to put a name to some of my strengths and see how detailed this descriptions were. And when my friends and I shared our results, I felt like we understood each other just a little more. :)
